Nationally-Renowned Nurse to Speak on Campus TomorrowAs has been the serial headache [and eyeache... and especially, heartache] throughout this academic year, being the Chairman of one of the most active student groups in the state ( recently named " Outstanding Organization of the Year" by our student government) has left me with little time for that much else, and this includes blogging. There is so much I want to write about - Ray Nagin, Sonja Chambers, George Ryan, Tax Day, etc..., but so little time left for that. I am doing this entry now for two reasons - event turnout (though a blog entry at this time likely won't do much in that regard) and the hope of getting some much-needed(!) help. Tomorrow (Wednesday, April 26th) evening, Jill Stanek will be speaking here on the campus of UIS, as part of Life Week. This event is sponsored by the Society of Conservative Students. Incredibly, Miss Stanek has agreed to do this event for free. The College Republicans will be hosting the reception, following the Miss Stanek's presentation. We will be purchasing the items either today or tomorrow morning, for this event. I have already been spending hundreds or dollars each semester, out-of-pocket, due to how active our organization has been. Our College Republcians treasury has some money in it, but nowhere near what we should have. We also don't have enough money, at the current time, to order our UIS College Republicans shirts for this year. We have so many new members now, so that would have been good. Help us out!!If you want to help us cover our expenses, then please consider making a donation. You can send your check - made payable to " UIS College Republicans" - to the address listed here. - - - - - - - - - - - -

The verdict's in...Will be announced, according to WGN (on which 'Matlock' was interupted a few minutes ago) "within 45 minutes." If only it had come at a different time... Updates: 1:31 PMGeorge Ryan and Larry Warner are guilty on all counts. WGN is now showing the jury live, and they are speaking to the press. Sonja Chambers seems to have done an excellent job as the Forewoman of the jury. The jurors had to make it through this entire trial, over all these months, and all of them stayed on (with the exception of two who had to be replaced towards the end of the process). Our state's top prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald has chosen to speak, and is delivering a press conference, while flanked by so many other law enforcement officials. Now, one wonders who they will seek to indict next.

I've Got Some IssuesAfter saying Friday night how many things [as usual] that I need to get done (something I had alluded to earlier that afternoon as well), I was told that I should consider working on that, rather than doing anything else... A little later, I told the person who advised me that that doing that was "easier said than done." Things getting in my way were: - lack of energy - lack of motivation - lack of encouragement - inadequate appreciation [I left this one out... which is unfortunately because the fact is, there has been some appreciation, but not from the persons I would have liked.] - financial shortfalls - some physical illness remaining (allergy season has hit) ...And that until that has been resolved, I don't see any major headway being made. But I think that people will always expect for certain things to keep on going, at the rate that they always have, not realizing that no one (at least no college student) could possibly keep up at that volume and output capacity, even without the aforementioned issues and hindrances). And I think that, due to interests of image and preservation, they will continue going on like that. I guess without the legitimate possibility of loss, all the verbiage I can expend won't motivate some to do what they committed to. I do think that there is a real possibility of change [internal operational improvement I mean - on the outside, most people have a very favorable view of what's going on] for next year... A certain individual leader is coming back in a month [not too soon!], and we have had a groundswell of enthusiasm and support - and growth! - this year. Despite a deadline I have for tomorrow, and the fact that a university event is [very-unfortunately] being held on campus this evening (on this of all days!!), I need to avoid allowing these types of things from distracting me from the meaning of this day - something that I should have been focused on this entire past week. I would encourage all of you to do the same. (In fact, I'm not going to publish this entry until later this afternoon, or perhaps even after that.) Put it AsideIgnore what I just said above... at least for now. And put aside the other less-important things on your mind. Today is the day to focus on the Resurrection of our Savior. HAPPY EASTER, and God Bless!!

Again? When it happened last time ( three weeks ago), I was thinking that perhaps I should've live-blogged the tornado... I mean - tornado(s). Well, that would've been quite unsafe - unless I had brought my laptop with me, into the PAC Building. However, I could've blogged between the tornados we had... We had no light, and no power, but my laptop still had some battery juice left (though that soon ran out). During that 'tornado interim,' I did IM with Jordan Golson (who has famously become an aficionado of sorts, for this type of thing), and I spoke on the phone [my cellular phone] with my parents (who had access to information, via a battery-operated radio... something that would've been quite useful for those of us on campus to have had at a time like that), and with Joe Grigoletti, who, since this was during Spring Break, was safe[r] back up north. Right now, I'm out of the 1st-floor bathroom here in this townhouse (after hearing on Handel's television that the Tornado Warning for Sangamon County has ended), and I'm back in my room. My other roommates [actually, just one of them] have come back as well, and David, with his laptop in the hallway of LRH's One South wing, told me that that's where those guys were, and had only two minutes left [I guess before they could go back to their rooms]. I called my dad on his cell phone... He and my mom had already been at someone else's house for something, and they were still there, when he got my phone call. So there's no way of knowing whether my family house was hit this time or not. [ The news said that the tornados were on the west side of Springfield, so that is not a good sign.] Thank you God, for once again allowing our campus to be safe, and not in the path of the disaster. Update (4/10/06): I've been feeling under the weather lately, and so much continues to go on... and on... and on... and on. I wanted to say: My house - and everyone I know - are just fine. This tornado was nothing like three weeks ago. Here is some coverage from Jordan Haley. I'll try to have some more posts up here soon.
